Basic things to know about VAR technology in football (Part 1)

With science and technology very developed in the current world, referees do not have to struggle in arguing in football matches because there is now the service of Var technology. So what is Var technology and how is it used, let’s find out in the article below.

What is Var Technology?

Var is also known in English as Video Assistant Referee. This is an effective tool to support referees during controversial phases. VAR technology appears most at the FIFA World Cup 2018 matches.

With the help of VAR technology in football, the referees will be able to make more accurate and rational decisions in situations where it is not possible to make decisions on the pitch. These may be situations where the referee cannot see or is difficult to observe and cannot make a reasonable decision, the referee will stop the game and use VAR technology.

Where is the video assistant referee assistant located?

If we watch it on television, we can see the referees’ images in a room. All data from the cameras of the stands will be sent to the VAR over the fiber-optic network. And the referees on the field will talk to the VAR team by the radio signal system. It is transmitted by super-speed optical fiber.

What is VAR technology is not intrinsically difficult to understand? During the 2018 World Cup, Russia used 33 cameras mounted around the field to ensure fair matches. In the Asian Cup 2018, VAR was also used for the first time in four clusters. These 4 clusters are the locations for the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and finals. In these tournaments, in many cases, the referees have to use VAR technology to make the necessary decisions.

Is the VAR limited to use?

The goal will not be determined by the VAR in the case of the attacking team making a foul in a situation that results in a goal, especially within penalty area fouls. In general, with the use of VAR, the referees can still issue the players with a penalty card even though a foul has occurred before.
